Sayulita, Nayarit, Mexico

Sayulita was established in 1941 but "discovered" by roving surfers in the late 1960's as it became known for its consistent river mouth surf break and is still a mecca for beginner surfers. The quaint, off-the-beaten-path travel destination attracts upscale tourists with its numerous art galleries and restaurants. Sayulita has a curious eclectic quality, frequented by native Cora and Huichol peoples, traveling craftsmen as well as international tourists. It is the crown jewel in the "Riviera Nayarit", the coastal corridor from Litibu to San Blas.
